Because correlation is not causation. I need to find this graph often enough to prove a point – as I had to yesterday – that I thought I’d archive it here. And, irritatingly, people always need a lengthy explanation for why this applies to their situation. Just remember – two variables changing at the same time does not prove one causes the other, no matter how intuitive your mechanism is!
